Family Services provides counselling and support to families in White Rock and South Surrey who are in crisis or whose children are at risk. Services include Preservation and Reunification, Family Development Response, Visitation and Access, and Family therapy. All referrals are from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
Our Family Services Programmes & Centres:
Early Childhood Developmental Services
Provides early intervention services in White Rock and Surrey. Families with children aged birth to 5 years of age who are diagnosed with or are at risk for developmental delays may access these services directly or may be referred by professionals. Services are voluntary, confidential and involve little or no cost to families. Early Childhood Developmental Services include The Infant Development Program, The Early Childhood Development Program and the Community Development Program.
FASD Support Services
Provides support to families who have a child with a diagnosis or suspected diagnosis of FASD or other Complex Developmental Behavioural Conditions. Referrals are by MCFD, Fraser Health, other professionals, or by individuals. Funding is through MCFD. Services provided in South Surrey and White Rock only. Positive Behaviour Support Services
Sources Positive Behaviour Support Services offers positive, proactive behaviour support programs to children from the ages of 6 – 19 years with a diagnosis of Autism; Developmental Disability with Autistic Characteristics and/or Behavioural challenges; Asperger’s Syndrome; Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified; Fragile X Syndrome; Rett's Syndrome; Mucopolysaccharidoses; Tuberous Sclerosis; Phenylketonuria; Congenital Rubella Syndrome; Cornelia de Lange Syndrome; and FASD and adults with PDD and FASDa who do not have intellectual disabilities. We provide consultation, training, functional assessments. We design, monitor and evaluate individualized program plans that are specific to each child and their family. Childcare Worker Outreach Program
Provides services to children and their families who have been identified by MCFD as having serious behaviour, social and emotional adjustment challenges. Services are defined as treatment activities which may take the form of direct child management, group counselling, family/caregiver counselling, crisis intervention and/or specialized consultation to caregivers and other professional agents.
Referrals are through Child and Youth Mental Health. Fee for service options may be available for those who wish to self refer.
Family Connections Centre
A residential-based family counselling oriented service for adolescents 13-16 years old experiencing intense and protracted conflict with their parents. Youth go home on weekends. The program help families develop more favorable solutions to the problems represented by such conflicts. A post-residential Aftercare program offers family counselling and in-home parent training. All referrals are from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
Family Preservation and Reunification provides an intensive support service to families whose children have been identified as at risk. Family Preservation and Reunification serves as an alternative to removing children from their families or when children were already removed but there is a plan for them to return to their home. Parenting groups are offered on a regular basis.
Family Development Response
Family Development Response provides services to families where there is a moderate level of risk to the children based on the MCFD's assessment and determined that FDR is the most appropriate intervention.
Family Preservation and Reunification
Family Therapy provides a variety of specialized clinical services to children and families including individual, family, relationship and child therapy. The therapeutic process builds on an attachment based perspective to enhance relationships by increasing empathy and mindfulness while encouraging individuals to gain awareness to their own strength. Trauma counselling is offered through individual or group therapy.
A emergency five bed residence for youth between the ages of 13 and 19 years old. All referrals are from the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Winter House works in conjuction with the Mnistry to facilitate the youth's care plan, providing support, counselling and assessments.
