POSITION: Legal Advocate – Part Time

CURRENT LOCATION: Legal Information and Advocacy Program – Surrey

CURRENT HOURS: 28 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY: To screen and identify client’s legal issues; provide advocacy and information to women as it pertains to their family law issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post Secondary education/or equivalent training and education in Criminology, Psychology, Sociology or Family Law or a related social services program
  • Two years experience working in a related field
  • Good understanding of Family Law and working knowledge of Poverty and  Immigration law
  • Knowledge of community resources and other social service agencies
  • Knowledge of Legal Services policies and procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to speak Punjabi would be an asset
  • Ability to work effectively with women who are experiencing a wide range of sensitive issues
  • Ability to take initiative, identify urgent work items and set priorities
  • Must have a valid BC Drivers License and access to a vehicle
  • Clear criminal record check required

START DATE: As soon as possible

SALARY: $18-$20 per hour

BENEFITS: As per benefits package
