Residential Care Worker – Casual

POSITION: Residential Care Worker – Casual (This position requires CUPE union membership)
CURRENT LOCATION: Georgia House – Delta (Ladner)
CURRENT HOURS: Overnight On-Call Status
(In accordance with policy for casual employment, minimum average two shift per month commitment dependent upon shift availability.)
POSITION SUMMARY:
Support and provide care for five adults with autism, in a residential care setting. Providing reliable supervision, care and advocacy for five adults with developmental disabilities in a residential setting. Assist and teach personal care and hygiene, meal prep, grocery shopping, housekeeping, laundry, transportation, medical appointments, as well as behavioural and emotional support. Candidate must be willing to plan and participate with the residents in community recreational activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- · Minimum of 3 months experience working with clients with Autism/PDD, and other intellectual disabilities and/or clients with possible physical aggression, including effective responses to their behaviour i.e. NVCPI, etc.
- · 2 years post-secondary education, preferably in behavior sciences, social work, behavior analysis or community social service equivalent
- · Knowledge of ABA principles and behaviour management strategies
- · Ability to implement positive programming strategies
- · Ability to actively contribute to and follow behaviour and safety management plans, support plans and instill consistency and stability in a home environment
- · Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- · All employment requirements (which include First Aid/CPR, criminal record check, NCI Training, class 5 unrestricted driver’s license, TB screening, Code of Ethics, proof of SIN, immunization form) must be valid and current or your application will not be considered
- · Familiar with adult rights and responsibilities
- · Familiar with adult licensing regulations
- · Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
- · Ability to use a word processor (Word for Windows) to produce objective, clear and concise written data and reports and to access email, including Outlook, for regular communication
- · Demonstrated success working in a team environment featuring cooperation, collaboration and communication skills
- · Ability to follow a petty cash system and report expenses
- · Willingness to assist clients in completing personal hygiene tasks, eating and dietary needs, and behaviour management
- · Ability to participate in tasks including routine maintenance related to running a residential facility (housekeeping)
START DATE: As soon as possible
BENEFITS: As per collective agreement
SALARY: $17.47 per hour (plus 9.8% in lieu of benefits)
