Community Gardener Volunteer
The Community Gardener Volunteer will assist the Food Bank in maintaining the 10 community plots that sit behind the Food Bank building to produce and harvest fresh produce. The produce grown from these community garden plots are distributed to users of the Food Bank.
To be successful in this position, volunteers should:
- Be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Have an ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Possess the ability to take direction well and to multitask.
- Conduct oneself with sensitivity to client needs at all times.
- Possess an awareness and understanding of poverty and homelessness related issues.
Volunteers can donate their time 1-2 days per week for 2-4 hours in lengths. Shifts are determined in consultation with the Program Manager of the Sources Food Banks.

Volunteers with the Food Bank have the rewarding opportunity of directly effecting individuals in need in the community by assisting in the receiving, and distribution of fresh food. By harvesting in our own backyard, volunteers are able to increase the community’s access to fresh produce and thus increase healthy eating.
