Position: Trauma Counsellor-STV Program – Permanent Part Time

Location: Surrey Women’s Place, Newton

Hours: 32 hours per week, days of week, flexible schedule

We are looking for a Master’s level Trauma Counsellor to join our Sources Trauma Counselling  team! This individual must be social justice oriented, technologically savvy and have excellent interpersonal skills (additional languages are an asset).

Sources Trauma Counselling

The Trauma Counselling Program provides fee for service counselling and STV counselling services to women and men impacted by trauma. Within the STV program, we provide individual and group counselling for women dealing with issues of violence and abuse, following the guidelines of the Best Practices for Stopping the Violence Programs (2006). The team is dynamic, skilled and passionate about providing the necessary supports to help people heal form their experiences and move forward with their lives.

• •             Works collaboratively with the Manager of Counselling Services and other Trauma Counsellors in the functioning                     of the Trauma Counselling Program. Attends Counselling meetings and completes mutually agreed upon tasks.
• •             Ensures counselling skills and knowledge base regarding women’s issues and violence are kept up-to-date by attending conferences and training, researching, requesting appropriate resources be purchased for the Trauma Counselling Program (e.g., books, videos, etc.).
• •             Participates in relevant community liaison, networking and collaboration to represent the program in the community, to support outreach and education on violence issues, and to facilitate referrals.
• •             Attends and participates in other relevant meetings

Responsibilities:

• ·         Provides individual intake, assessment, individual mid-range counselling, and group counselling to people experiencing the effects of relationship violence, sexual assault, and/or childhood abuse while incorporating a feminist perspective and following STV program standards. Keeps up-to-date confidential, client statistics, including group statistics, which are to be reported on a monthly basis to the STV Program Coordinator
• ·         Incorporates the central components of trauma counselling, emphasizing in particular safety and containment and re-processing for the individual.
• ·         Reports critical incidents to the appropriate levels of authority whether internal or external to the agency and documents actions with respect to safety assessment and planning.
• ·         Maintains up-to-date confidential client files ensuring that information is documented in a way that reduces the possibility of the information being used in a prejudicial manner against the client.
• ·         Updates client files to include intake records, counselling plans, limits of confidentiality, and consent forms, session notes, and other relevant documents.
• ·         Attends and participates in scheduled external counselling consultation. Uses peer support/debriefing and/or external supervision and the STV standards to ensure provision of a high quality service.
• ·         Provides advocacy for clients on an as needed/as wanted basis, where resources permits.
• ·         Refers clients, according to clients’ needs, to other programs, other agencies, and organizations.
• ·         Attends professional development as required to update counselling skills and knowledge specific to stopping the violence against women.
• ·         Develops educational programs for the groups ensuring that the programs address the needs presented by the individuals in the groups.

Qualifications:

• ·         M.A., M.Ed., M.S.W. (Counselling Psychology) or the equivalency of a combination of education, training, and life experience.
• ·         Minimum of two years’ experience working with women who have or are experiencing abuse.
• ·         Must have RSW, RCC or CCC designation

Start Date: ASAP

Wage Rate:  $29 per hour
