Position:         Stopping the Violence Counsellor

Reporting to:  MHSS Team Leader

Location:         Parksville & Surrounding Area, Vancouver Island, B.C.

Hours:             18.5 hours per week – Permanent Part-Time

Salary:             Grid 14-P         $33.83 – $41.32

We are looking for a Stopping the Violence Counsellor to join our Sources Oceanside team! This position provides individual and group counselling to women over the age of 19 who have experienced violence or abuse in relationships, childhood abuse, or sexual assault.  The STV counsellor will work with women to explore the circumstances that brings them to counselling, work together to identify goals for counselling and implement interventions focused on stabilization and safety for women. Working from a Feminist and Trauma-informed perspective the STV counsellor will support women in understanding the emotional, cognitive, and physical impacts of experiencing abuse and violence, develop and strengthen coping skills, build self-efficacy, create a deeper understanding of the power imbalances that influence the relationship with self and others and support them in their healing journey.

Qualifications:

  • ·         Undergraduate Degree in a social service field.
  • ·         Two (2) years recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • ·         Familiar and comfortable working with Microsoft Office products.
  • ·         Must possess a valid BC Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle.
  • ·         Clear Criminal Record Check.
