Women’s Place Intake Volunteer

At Sources Women’s Place we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive space for women and their children. A space where our clients are free to access the help and resources that are available.

Due to our small space, our building remains closed and services are limited to maintain COVID protocol measures.  We remain dedicated to providing support and care to every woman who comes to us that are unique to their individual needs.

As the Women’s Place Intake Volunteer, you will be the first contact person for women seeking support and for the community seeking to support Women’s Place. Your main tasks will be, but are not limited to:

  • Greeting women who come to our door and providing outreach services, including information, referral and/or emergency food/clothing services.
  • Assist with donor support to Women’s Place by accepting and sorting food, clothing and toiletries donations.
  • Provide administration support to the Women’s Place operations including returning phone calls, data collection, stocking resources, etc.
You must be aged 18 or older. This position is available to female candidates only.


Volunteers are required to have the ability to set boundaries and to maintain confidentiality. Interested applicants should possess a genuine interest in positive interaction with clients and be able to provide positive non-judgmental support.  Please note that the nature of the volunteer position will change when Women’s Place re-opens for in-person service.

In addition, to be successful volunteers must:

  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be flexible, detail oriented with strong organizational skills and possess an ability to take initiative, accept direction and work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Have the ability to work well with diverse client populations.  Ability to relate to individuals across all socioeconomic and cultural groups, looking through a lens of poverty and poverty-related issues.
  • Have the ability to build rapport with a variety of individuals while maintaining a professional demeanor and firm professional boundaries.
  • Have the ability to exercise good judgement in a demanding and continually changing work environment.
  • Be willing to secure a Criminal Record Check (at no cost to Sources volunteers).  All positions have been designated by Sources Community Resource Society as requiring a Criminal Records Review prior to an applicant being employed in this capacity.  Certain police records may preclude the appointment to certain positions.

Time Commitment:

Positions at Women’s Place require a minimum of 6 month commitment, with one shift per week between Tuesday and Friday.  Exact day to be determined in consultation with the Women’s Place Volunteer Coordinator and based on shift availability.
