Position: Child & Youth Worker – Permanent, Full Time

Location:  Fort St John

Hours: 35 hours/week

We are looking for a Youth Care Worker to join our Sources Northeast team! The successful candidate will be trained to use the principles of positive behaviour support and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) to support families and children with neurodevelopmental disorders and behaviour challenges. They will work as a part of an interdisciplinary team, under the direct mentorship and supervision of a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (can be used towards certification hours).

Description of position

Reporting to the Manager of Behavioural Services, the Child & Youth Worker works within a community-based outreach service that offers one-on-one intervention to children and youth aged 6-18. Clients are referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Child & Youth Workers assist clients in meeting goals, collaborate with schools and other community supports, teach skill-building, assist with transitions to independent living, and implement gradual exposure for mental health concerns.

General Responsibilities:

• ·         Effective and collaborative communication with MCFD staff is essential
• ·         Creating a strong team environment
• ·         Case management and report writing
• ·         Some administration duties are required

Program Specific Responsibilities:

• ·         Maintain a caseload and provide direct services to families referred to the program
• ·         Provide intervention for youth with mental health challenges and/or developmental disabilities.
• ·         Support client goals as directed by the referring Mental Health Clinician. Goals may include socialization, symptom reduction and skill development.
• ·         Develop, teach, and demonstrate the strategies of positive behaviour support.

Qualifications:

• ·         Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Child and Youth Care, Behavioural Sciences, or another related field
• ·         Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children and families, supporting people with behaviour challenges, or other related experience.
• ·         A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
• ·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• ·         Familiar and comfortable working with Microsoft Office products.
• ·         Must possess a valid BC Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle.
