Income Tax Volunteer

Income Tax Clinic Volunteers, including both Tax Preparers and Intake Volunteers, play a crucial role in the successful operation of our income tax clinics.

Tax Preparer Volunteers are responsible for accurately completing clients’ tax returns, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, and providing a professional and supportive experience for clients.

Intake Volunteers complement this work by greeting clients upon arrival, ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed, and assisting clients with their tax intake forms prior to preparation. They may also help clients access tax-related information, answer questions about government benefits, and provide information on other programs offered by Sources.

To be successful in this position, volunteers will have:
  • Availability throughout the months of March, April and May.
  • An introductory knowledge of tax completion is an asset.
  • A commitment to completing the training provided by the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) and Sources.
  • Be flexible, detail oriented with strong organizational skills and possess an ability to take initiative, accept direction and work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Have the ability to build rapport with a variety of individuals while maintaining a professional demeanour and firm professional boundaries.
  • Have the ability to work well with diverse client populations.
  • Have the ability to relate to individuals across all socioeconomic and cultural groups.
  • Have the ability to exercise good judgment in a demanding and continually changing work environment.
  • An awareness and understanding of poverty and homelessness related issues.
  • Have a willingness to secure a Criminal Records Check.  All positions have been designated by Sources Community Resource Society as requiring a Criminal Records Review prior to an applicant being employed in this capacity.  Certain police records may preclude the appointment to certain positions.
