Housing Crisis Prevention Worker

POSITION: Housing Crisis Intervention Worker – Permanent Full Time
CURRENT LOCATION: HPS Prevention (HPSP) – Surrey (Newton)
CURRENT HOURS: 35 hr/wk
POSITION SUMMARY: Provides direct one-to-one comprehensive outreach services for people currently undergoing the experience of becoming un-housed, released from hospital or living in the community with challenging health concerns that create risk of homelessness.  Provides support through crisis, working with clients to manage crisis, strategize solutions and next steps in accessing resources, services, shelter, housing and supports to assist the clients in achieving their housing stabilization plans.  Addresses challenges with landlords or other services that may be contributing to the crisis.  Provides written communication on behalf of the client; negotiates and mediates for the clients.  Ensures access to all pertinent services and encourages development of support networks; promotes community relations, partnerships with project partners, and other human serving organizations and general public.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum 2 years post-secondary education or equivalent experience in related field
• Knowledge of local community resources
• An awareness and understanding of poverty and homelessness related issues
• The ability to function independently and under pressure and effectively manage crisis, emergency situations, and challenging clients
• Have a strong sense of social justice and resilient desire to assist and improve the lives of marginalized people
• Work from a client services and solution focused approach
• Must have vehicle and insurance to use for work purposes
• Criminal Record check required

START DATE: As soon as possible
SALARY: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
