Sources Food Bank participates in BC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program

Warmer weather signals the return of outdoor festivities, including Farmers’ Markets, to many municipalities including the City by the Sea. The first day of the White Rock Farmers’ Market is Sunday May 6, held at Miramar Plaza (15154 Russell Avenue).

Sources White Rock/South Surrey Food Bank is happy to once again partner with the BC Association of Farmers’ MarketsNutrition Coupon Program

“This will be the fifth year we have partnered with the White Rock Farmers’ Market and participated in the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program,” said SOURCES Food Bank Manager Jaye Murray.

Through the Program, a limited number of lower-income families with children and seniors are eligible to receive farmers’ market coupons each week for 16 weeks. These coupons allow them to purchase fresh food items from the market, while also supporting local farmers, to strengthen food security in our community and across British Columbia.

“Along with the coupons, there is a food literacy component where participants also attend cooking classes, tours, workshops on canning/preserving, and more,” Murray said.

In 2017, coupons administered by Sources White Rock/South Surrey Food Bank helped 25 seniors and 36 families with a total of 92 children.
