Position: Behaviour Consultant/Analyst/ Associate Behaviour Analyst- Casual
Location: B.A.S.I.C. Van Isle
This Posting is for the Comox Valley. We are looking for someone who is interested in working as a Behaviour Consultant to join our Sources B.A.S.I.C. Van Isle program’s team! The Behaviour Consultant offers functional and skill assessment, Intervention Plan Development, teaching, and supervision of Intervention Plan implementation to persons served, including conducting intake assessments, Functional Behaviour Assessment, Skills assessment, designing Intervention and Positive Behaviour Support Plans, hands on training to parents and support staff, clinical supervision of Behaviour Interventionists, evaluation of program success, program modification, and one on one intervention with clients. The position is primarily based out of Parksville and the Comox Valley. The successful candidate should be able to support clients in Nanaimo, Parksville, Comox Valley, Campbell River and Powell River.

Sources B.A.S.I.C. Program
The B.A.S.I.C program is designed to cover a wide range of services to assist individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The Behaviour Consultant component of service provides consultation and support to parents and team members based on the functional assessment of behaviors and skills of the child. This service is provided by qualified and highly trained staff that are directly supervised by Senior Board Certified Behaviour Analyst and Manager. The focus person will work with a behaviour interventionist who is specifically trained to implement an individualized intervention plan to teach new communication skills, functional skills, life skills, or address any skill deficits that the focus person may have. The consultation and support services can take place in our centre, in the community or in the focus person’s home. Behaviour Consultation and Intervention provided through the B.A.S.I.C. program is evidence based best practice in the field of Applied Behaviour Analysis.
Includes but is not limited to the following:
- Client related duties including:
- Schedules and attends meetings as required.
- Caries a caseload of clients as assigned and as required
- Conducts Intake Assessments, Ecology Assessments, the ABLLS assessment, and Functional Behavioural Assessments in multiple environments with each of the persons served.
- Develops Intervention Plans that incorporate discrete trial teaching, and Positive Behaviour Support Plans, based on assessment data, the goals and characteristics of the persons served, and the ecology of the family of the persons served.
- Liaise with other caregivers on the persons served service team.
- Teaching and demonstrating the strategies in the Intervention Plan and/or Positive Behaviour Support Plan to the persons served, caregivers and Behaviour Interventionists, within the relevant environment(s).
- Implement and oversee the collection of evidence based pre and post test data and monitor the data to determine the effectiveness of the program.
- Modify Intervention Plans and Positive Behaviour Support Plans as necessary to improve plan effectiveness.
- Write accurate Assessment and Discharge reports in the designated format.
- Advocates for the persons served as required and appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality of all society and client related information.
- Obtains Clinical Supervision for all cases from the BCBA Clinical Supervisor assigned to each case.
Administrative duties including:
- Creates and maintains an accurate and up to date schedule.
- Performs duties with the assigned balance of direct, indirect and administrative time.
- Keeps accurate statistics of hours and daily tasks in the designated format.
- Keeps accurate and legible records on all case work.
- Reviews all clients on a regular basis with the Assistant Manager.
- Maintains a professional attitude and behaviour as well as demonstrates appropriate and professional communication with families, other caregivers and professionals.
- Serves as an in-service trainer for the employer as well as a community trainer as required.
- Establishes and maintains a positive network of contacts within the communities being served.
- Works with the B.A.S.I.C. team to ensure the program meets all Sources BC Policies and Procedures as well as all applicable COA standards.
- Fulfils other related duties as delegated by the Program Manager and employer.
1. Category A:
Masters Degree or Bachelors Degree in a human services field (ex: Special Education, Educational Psychology, Behavioural Sciences).
One years’ experience conducting Functional Behaviour Assessments resulting in the creation of an Intervention Plan or Positive Behaviour Support Plan that incorporates discrete trial teaching, with people with behaviour challenges.
Bachelors Degree in a human services field (ex: Special Education, Educational Psychology, Behavioural Sciences).
Six months experience implementing Behaviour Intervention Plans that incorporate discrete trial teaching, with people with behaviour challenges.
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Access).
5. Excellent writing skills.
6. Ability to work cooperatively and independently
7. Physically fit and able to lift up to 30 lbs.
8. Knowledge/awareness/agility around people with disabilities.
9. Knowledge/awareness/agility around people of many different cultures.
10. First aid and CPR training (Work Safe BC requirements)
11. Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
