Semiahmoo Rotary’s Charity Golf Tournament raises $60,000

The Semiahmoo Rotary Club’s rescheduled 31st Annual Charity Golf Tournament earlier this month was a success, raising over $60,000 for community support initiatives including SOURCES’ Comfort and Care During COVID-19 response fund.

“This is SOURCES’ third year partnering with the Semiahmoo Rotary Club on their charity golf tournament. In this time of COVID-19, we didn’t know what to expect. The result is fantastic,” said SOURCES CEO David Young. “Thank you to the Semiahmoo Rotary Club, the golf committee, the generous sponsors, enthusiastic golfers and to Morgan Creek Golf Course. The funds will provide both comfort and care to individuals and families who need support during the pandemic and beyond.”

The tournament, held on September 8th, was completely sold out with a maximum participation of 144 golfers. Staggered start times and modified activities at each hole ensured safety and fun for all. Of note, for the first time in 31 years of hosting the tournament, long-standing supporting golfer Jim Kilback won a GMC Truck (sponsored by Barnes Wheaton) for scoring a Hole-In-One on Morgan Creek Golf Course’s 3rd hole!

In lieu of the event’s traditional post-game banquet and live auction, the Rotary Club turned to online platforms to raise funds and held, for the first time, a virtual 50/50 raffle and silent auction.

“Trying something new comes with a risk but this was certainly one worth taking. The 50/50 jackpot hit $7,450 – the most we’ve ever seen. Congratulations to the lucky winner,” said Scott Hind, Tournament Co-Chair. “Making the raffle and silent auction online and available to the public was the right thing to do. We’re delighted we could hold this fundraising component and be able to help many worthy organizations and initiatives that support our community.”

Major sponsors for this year’s tournament include: B&B Contracting Ltd., Genex Development Corporation, Herschel Supply Co., Janzen Insurance, Odlum Brown (Jeff Davis, Advisor) and Save-On-Foods.

“We are so appreciative of the support received from more than 30 sponsors. We are grateful to live, work and play in such a generous community,” said Shelley Williams, Tournament Co-Chair and director on the Sources Foundation board.
