Sources Community Resources Society Fires Up Coldest Night of the Year Charity Walk to Be In-Person This Year

SURREY AND WHITE ROCK, BC – February 15, 2023 – After two years of virtual walking, Sources Community Resources Society (SOURCES) is fired up to hold the Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) walk in-person this year. CNOY is an annual nation-wide fundraiser, with SOURCES carrying the torch for White Rock/South Surrey. This family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, February 25 at the White Rock Promenade.

The money raised will help SOURCES provide food, clothing and shelter for the homeless, hungry and hurting in our community. Your support will also connect vulnerable persons to counselling and outreach services. “Our community needs us. Organizations such as SOURCES count on donations from the public to run many of its programs and services. We are happy to support them for many years now, so that people can receive help,” says Leigh Sully, President at Elkay Developments, a lead sponsor of the event.

For one night, CNOY walkers across Canada will experience the harsh conditions in which many are forced to live. SOURCES is asking everyone to gather to warm up the streets by walking to show they care. “RBC’s collective ambition is to help our clients thrive and our communities prosper,” says Doreen Kumar, Branch Manager at RBC, lead sponsor of the event. “We recognize the importance of basic human necessities, such as access to housing for those most vulnerable within our communities, and with events such as the Coldest Night Of the Year, we support SOURCES to both create awareness and help raise funds for this very important cause.”

Some of the highlights of the event include a warm-up session by fitness instructor and ex-CFL player Tommy Europe and performance by local music band Billy White and the Rockettes. There will be face painting and Korki Klown at the HomeLife Benchmark Realty tent and donuts by Little oOtie’s Mini Donuts. There will also be warm soup from Sheila’s Catering for walkers who have worked up an appetite!

This event is a 2 KM or 5 KM walk and begins at 4 PM. CNOY toques will be given to walkers who have raised $150 or more or $75 (for youth 17 and under), at the check-in desk.

Across Canada, there are 182 locations participating and the White Rock/South Surrey location is currently in second place on the fundraising scoreboard at 53% of SOURCES’ $250,000 goal. Teams and walkers can register online to set up their fundraising page. Registration is free and everyone is welcome. Visit cnoy.org/whiterocksouthsurrey to register to walk, volunteer, or donate.
