Sources Women’s Place Hosts Its First-Ever Charity Fashion Show In Her Shoes
SOUTH SURREY AND WHITE ROCK, BC – March 20, 2023 – Social wellness organization Sources Community Resources Society (SOURCES) is pleased to announce its first-ever fashion show fundraiser In Her Shoes to be held April 27 at Cavallo Winery, Surrey. Proceeds from the event will go towards Women’s Place, a community-funded centre operated by SOURCES in South Surrey/White Rock.
Women’s Place offers free clothing exchange, counselling, crime victim assistance, hot lunches, laundry and shower facilities, as well as legal and professional referrals to help women get back up on their feet.
“According to BC Public Safety and Emergency Services, 20,000 women in the province experience relationship violence each year. There’s a huge need for safe places. Reporting an assault, leaving an abusive relationship, and seeking help can put women at risk,” says Denise Darrell, Executive Director at SOURCES. “At Women’s Place, we walk alongside women, helping them recover and rebuild their lives.”
Over the last three years, the centre had nearly 9,000 in-person visits and an astounding 680 women accessed individual sessions offered by the Trauma Counselling Program.
“There has never been a greater demand for women’s services, and I am so proud of the work SOURCES does in our community to support women and families in need.” says Sara Forte, Sources Society Board President and In Her Shoes Co-Chair. “In Her Shoes fashion show will be a celebration of the power and resilience of women, and the funds will be used to improve the quality of their lives.”
SOURCES is inviting everyone to attend this event in celebration of women and enjoy an evening of music, fashion, and food. One of the highlights of the show is a silent auction offering clothing, jewellery, personal training sessions, home décor, skin care products, gift certificates, and more.
“In support of vulnerable women, SOURCES staff, volunteers, and clients will be walking the runway as In Her Shoes models,” says Courtney Robichaud, In Her Shoes Co-Chair. “I am proud to be a part of this locally generated fundraising event. Even the models’ outfits are generously provided by Joy Mauro, Owner of Turnabout Luxury Resale.”
SOURCES is grateful for the incredible reception it has received, particularly from women of influence who are wholeheartedly championing our cause.. White Rock Optometry has come forward as the presenting sponsor and other local businesses have also joined to show their support.
