World Record Breaking Event Coming to White Rock Sheila’s Catering to Build the Longest Charcuterie Board on the Longest Pier in Canada
WHITE ROCK, BC – May 1, 2023 – Sheila’s Catering Co. will break the World Record for longest Charcuterie Board ever! The Sheila’s Catering team will build a consecutive 500ft Charcuterie board down the center of White Rock’s iconic Pier. The event is aptly named, Charcuterie on the Pier happening on Sept. 2, 2023.
The pier is a major draw for both locals and tourists and will offer a stunning background for this inaugural event which supports Sources Food Banks, Friends of the Pier, and other local charities. Overlooking White Rock Beach and Semiahmoo Bay, the White Rock Pier is the ultimate way to showcase White Rock’s surrounding community and supporting businesses, all while raising funds for important community causes.
The public will be invited to purchase tickets and experience this historical event right on White Rock’s “Longest Pier in Canada”. The 500ft board will feed 1200 persons, with 3 bars open serving beer and wine. In addition, Memorial Park will be a free entertainment zone with live music and activities provided by local businesses and organizations.
Sheila’s Catering, an award winning South Surrey/White Rock caterer, was a partner in Friends of the Pier. Inspired by their love of White Rock, Sheila’s Catering is motivated to bring a new, exciting event to showcase our beautiful “City by the Sea”, White Rock, and raise funds to go back into the community.
“The idea has been brewing with us since before the pandemic. We are so excited to share this one of a kind experience with White Rock and the surrounding community. The sheer reach of this event, with Guinness’ involvement, has the potential to touch millions, especially with the drone and video content we have planned for social media and the amazing backdrop of the pier and ocean.” Says Wes Levesque, owner and Director of Operations.
An Official Guinness Representative will be onsite to adjudicate the entire attempt, shining a light on White Rock and everyone involved in the event.
Ticket holders will get to sample from the giant charcuterie board, enjoy beverages and mingling over the picturesque setting. All attendees will receive a certificate for participating in the World Record Breaking event.
Net proceeds from Charcuterie on the Pier will benefit Sources Food Banks, operated by Sources Community Resources Society (SOURCES). The goal is to raise a minimum of $50,000 for charity.
The impact of rising food and housing costs, as well as global issues affecting world-wide poverty, hunger, and personal safety, are having a staggering impact on Source’s two food banks. The support of Charcuterie on the Pier will enable Source’s Food Banks to better respond to this increasing need.
“Sheila’s Catering has been a friend of SOURCES for years now,” says David Young, SOURCES CEO. “To be a charitable recipient of such a historical event is not only an honour, it is very timely for us. Currently, we are currently facing an astonishing 35% increase in individuals accessing our food banks. Funds raised will help offset this burden so that we can better serve our community.”
Friends of the Pier, a White Rock charity benefiting from this event, was born out of the need to raise funds for repairing the White Rock Pier after a hurricane force storm severely damaged the famous all-wood pier. Plans are now underway to replace the entire pier over the next two years, bringing it up to modern safety and design standards that will retain the historic feel of the original pier. The charcuterie boards that are used to break the Guinness World Record on September 2, 2023 will be auctioned off at the event, with all net proceeds from those sales going to Friends of the Pier.
The City of White Rock officially approved this Pier event in a Mayor and Council Meeting on March 13, after reviewing detailed event plans submitted by Sheila’ Catering Co. The City of White Rock is supporting Charcuterie on the Pier as the Venue Sponsor for Charcuterie.
Sheila’s Catering is looking for two major companies to partner in presenting the event, and other sponsorship opportunities include Gold, Silver, Bronze and Community levels. Sponsorships include tickets to the event, branding opportunities, recognition at the event and through event marketing. Not to mention the opportunity to create some pretty impressive content!
“We have several levels of sponsorship to provide opportunities to a lot of local businesses to be part of this event. A World Record lasts forever and I invite anyone that wants to share in this to contact me.” Brant Darling, co-owner.
