World Record Breaking Event Comes to White Rock. Sheila’s Catering Attempts to Build the Longest Charcuterie Board on the Longest Pier in Canada
WHITE ROCK, BC – Aug. 30, 2023 – On September 2nd, 2023, an awe-inspiring event is set to unfold as Sheila’s Catering Co. takes on the challenge of constructing the world’s longest Charcuterie Board. Stretching an impressive 500 feet, the skilled team from Sheila’s Catering will assemble this culinary masterpiece along the iconic White Rock Pier, presenting “Charcuterie on the Pier.”
White Rock’s Pier, a beloved destination for both locals and tourists, will provide a stunning backdrop for this historic undertaking. Overlooking White Rock Beach and Semiahmoo Bay, the pier will not only spotlight the community and local businesses but also raise crucial funds for charity.
Sheila’s Catering, an award-winning South Surrey-White Rock caterer, was a partner in Friends of the Pier. Motivated by their love for White Rock, Sheila’s Catering aims to highlight the scenic “City by the Sea” and raise funds for community betterment.
Proceeds from Charcuterie on the Pier will directly support Sources Food Banks, operated by Sources Community Resources Society (SOURCES), Friends of the Pier and the Semiahmoo Rotary Club.
Limited tickets for three time slots are still available for those eager to witness this remarkable feat on Canada’s “Longest Pier.” The 500-foot charcuterie board will accommodate 1200 guests and be accompanied by four bars that accept various forms of payment, including cash, credit, and debit. Attendees can savor wines from local producers as well as craft brews, unique batch cocktails and 0% cocktails and sodas.
The event will be hosted by Howard Blank of Point Blank Entertainment, who will guide guests through their experience and introduce special guests, including a representative from GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS. The festivities will also feature engaging fundraising activities, allowing attendees to actively participate.
Adding to the spectacle, a professional falconer will attend the event with his team of falcons and skilled handlers. The handlers, with falcons on their arms, will stroll along the pier, serving as a deterrent to seagulls.
Upon arrival, guests will be prompted to choose their side, deciding whether to stand beside their party or on the opposite end of the extensive 500-foot table. Each guest will receive a personal charcuterie board and tongs for use during the event and as a keepsake.
The 500-foot charcuterie board, consisting of 250 two-foot boards attached together, will be wrapped with industrial food wrap and covered by ice blankets. The board will be uncovered one section at a time, so that guests in each time slot will enjoy fresh charcuterie.
Throughout the event, guests will have the privilege of hearing from special guests representing GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS, Sheila’s Catering Co., and Sources Food Banks. Live music by the Dave Say Trio will provide a musical backdrop against the panorama of White Rock.
Beyond the ticketed event, Memorial Park will transform into an open entertainment zone from 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM, featuring live music and activities. Attendees and the public alike can engage with Semiahmoo First Nation and other exhibitors like Sources Food Hub, Save-On-Foods, the Semiahmoo Rotary Club, MP Kerry-Lynn Findlay, and MLAs Trevor Halford and Elenore Sturko. Ticket holders are requested to collect wristbands at the Wristband Pickup tents in Memorial Park before proceeding to their designated pier time slot.
The event will commence at 1:00 PM in Memorial Park, with Semiahmoo First Nation partnering with Sheila’s Catering Co. to offer a warm welcome and an indigenous dance performance. An educational exhibit by Semiahmoo First Nation and an indigenous beading activity will further enrich the experience.
Comedian Lizzie Allan will guide the festivities in Memorial Park, which features performances by locals Jim Black & Ben Brown, and the Adam Robert Thomas Trio, known for their unique fusion of soul, jazz, indie, and top 40 music.
For those that cannot attend, opportunities to contribute remain available. Supporters can take part in the 2023 50/50 & Raffle, competing for a share of the jackpot and the chance to win exciting prizes. The charcuterie boards used in the record-breaking attempt will also be available for purchase, with net proceeds contributing to the future restoration of the White Rock Pier.
