Position:  Food Bank Support Worker

Location: White Rock / South Surrey Food Bank

Hours: Casual, Minimum 20 hours guaranteed, up to 30 hours possible (must be flexible)

Sources is looking for a Food Bank Support Worker to join our Sources Food Bank team!   We need a team player to work cooperatively to support a small staff team and volunteers.

Sources is a community-based non-profit organization that has been providing help, encouragement, and hope for individuals and families in White Rock, Surrey, Delta, Langley, and Prince George for 40 years. We serve 40,000 individuals yearly and that is all owing to our dedicated team. We provide services such as food banks, counselling, employment services, and community living programs. Sources Food Bank

The Sources Food Bank Sources White Rock/South Surrey Food Bank is a member of Food Banks BC and Food Banks Canada, providing community members in need a minimum of 2 days’ worth of food per person per week. A combination of warehouse and office, the Food Bank is a busy and ever changing environment where staff and volunteers work collaboratively alongside clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with office operations and tasks
  • Carrying out various duties relating to direct program service delivery
  • Carry out basic responsibilities of other permanent Food Bank staff in their absence.
  • Participates in the orientation, training, and supervision of Volunteers when needed.
  • Participates in community fundraising events on behalf of the Food Bank when required.
  • Follow established policies and procedures of the Society and Organization.

Qualifications:

  • ·         Minimum 2 years’ post-secondary education or equivalent experience in a related field
  • ·         Physically fit and able to lift a minimum 30 Lbs.
  • ·         Proficient with Microsoft Office suite products including 365, experience with databased software
  • ·         Must have availability and flexibility as the schedule may be adjusted dependant on program needs
  • ·         Strong conflict resolution skills and the ability to maintain a positive and supportive attitude
  • ·         Awareness and sensitivity to poverty (issues, impact, causes, and solutions)
  • ·         Must have ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and visitors
  • ·         Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise good judgment and act with discretion
  • ·         Self-motivated with strong communication skills written and verbal.
  • ·         Detail oriented with high standards of quality and accuracy
  • ·         Possess a class 5 Driver’s license and clean drivers abstract.
  • ·         First Aid and CPR training (Work Safe BC requirements)
  • ·         Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check.
