Women’s Place General Volunteer (South Surrey)

At Sources Women’s Place we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive space for women and their children. Women’s Place provides a hot lunch program, a free clothing/laundry/shower program, as well as group and individual counselling. The Centre also assists clients needing access to legal aid, the food bank, medical care, emergency aid kits, as well as multiple other resources that are available within the community.  Women’s Place is open to all self-identified women*(including cis, trans and two-spirit, 2SLGBTQI+), striving to create a community supporting women’s inclusion and diversity with dignity and respect.

Women’s Place Volunteers assist with all tasks of the operations of the centre in a collaboration with other volunteers and staff.  This may involve rotating between the Clothing Annex, Reception and Kitchen.

This position is available to female candidates only.

To be successful in this position, volunteers will:

  • Be 18+ years of age.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 10lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Have a willingness to work in a small space.
  • Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of poverty and homelessness-related issues.
  • Have an ability to work well with diverse client populations and engage with clients in an empathetic, positive, and professional manner.
  • Have an ability to build rapport with a variety of individuals while maintaining a professional demeanour and firm professional boundaries.
  • Have an ability to exercise good judgement in a demanding and continually changing work environment.
  • Have an ability to work in a dynamic and energetic environment, as an individual as well as with supervision and support.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and support services is an asset.
  • Familiar with business technology; computer/technical skills and experience, including MS Office 10, internet navigation and research, and standard office equipment.
  • Willingness to secure a Criminal Records Check.  All positions have been designated by Sources Community Resource Society as requiring a Criminal Records Review prior to an applicant being employed in this capacity.  Certain police records may preclude the appointment to certain positions.
  • Provide contact information of 2 professional references that we can follow up with.

Time Commitment:

Positions at Women’s Place require a minimum 1-year commitment, with one shift per week.  Exact days and time to be discussed with the Women’s Place Coordinator.
