Sources Foundation Gears Up to Change the Tune at White Rock/South Surrey’s Coldest Night of the Year Walkathon
White Rock, BC – February 14, 2025 – Sources Foundation (Sources) is calling on everyone to help change the tune – change the story for our community one small wintry step at a time. Entering its 12th year of hosting the White Rock/South Surrey Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY), Sources hopes to raise $300,000 and preserve the community’s number 1 fundraiser position across 207 locations in Canada.
Starting 3 PM on Feb 22 at Memorial Park in White Rock, over 500 walkers are expected to walk in support of vital community services such as food banks, homelessness prevention and youth outreach. This year’s event is especially important as we face extreme cold weather, making community support more crucial than ever.
Last year, the White Rock/South Surrey community rallied to generate over $280,000 – the highest in the country. Ernie Klassen was the top fundraiser, bringing in $26,775, and White Rock Baptist Church was the top team at over $34,600. Other leading teams included White Rock Pride Society, Semiahmoo Rotary Striders, Gracepoint Cares and Heart and Sole.
“Funds raised from CNOY enable us able to serve community members struggling with food insecurity, risk of homelessness and mental wellbeing,” says David MacIntyre, President and CEO of Sources Foundation. “Please join us for one night out in the cold, experiencing the harsh reality that many around us face.”
While the cause is serious, CNOY promises fun and excitement for all ages. The event will start with a performance by Billy White and the Rockettes, delicious treats by Lil Ootie’s and Starbucks and activities for children. Renowned fitness coach and TV personality Tommy Europe will be the emcee. Families can look forward to an energetic start to the walk, with Tommy’s engaging and motivational style setting the tone for a fantastic evening.
Registration for the event is open. Participants can choose to walk either 2 KM or 5 KM, starting from Memorial Park. Those unable to attend the walk can still support the cause by making a donation online. Sources gives thanks to sponsors for their continued support including Elkay Developments, HomeLife Benchmark Realty, and RBC Jandali Wealth Management Group.
